Surprisingly or not, Nevada is the only US state where prostitution is legally allowed. To some extent… By state law, any county with a population of up to 700,000 can license brothels. That’s why you can still find such institutions in the middle of nowhere. Citizens are trying to make an effort from time to time to shut down brothels in different counties, but petitions keep failing.
That law also implies that it’s completely illegal in big cities like Las Vegas or Reno, but in reality, only about 1% of the money is spent in licensed brothels…
Only 3 miles north from Beatty, the welcome sign and wreckage of the old plane – that’s all that remains from Angel’s Ladies, now treated as a historical landmark.
Angel’s Ladies brothel was established more than one century ago and it had a couple of other names until the previous owner, Mack Moore, changed it from Fran’s Star Ranch to Angel’s Ladies in April 1997 because people were “confusing the brothel with a real ranch“. At that time 5,000-square-foot brothel on a 70-acre ranch had 13 employees.
During last years Mack Moore tried to sell the brothel a couple of times and finally business was closed in 2014. There’s still private property on the land, so please be quiet if you’ll decide to make a stop there.
The wreckage of the plane appeared there during an incident that happened in 1978. The story says that the owners made a promotional competition and invited men to jump out of the plane and try to land on the mattress put on the ground. The plane was provided by the owners! As a reward, the winner could spend a night with the girl of his choice for free. But something went wrong as usually happens during weird competitions. The plane crashed, and gladly no one was hurt. Since those days generously covered with graffiti wreckage stood together with the sign.
